It is our uncontrolled wishes which are the stumbling block in the formation of excellent personality :(simple living and high thinking.)
An ancient saint was strolling on a busy road of Varansi buzzing with local people queuing a sweat (zelebi)cum milk shop early morning. He too felt his mouth watering .He approached the owner of the shop and asked for zelebis on payment .He chewed it all in front of the standing crowd .He at once inserted his fingers in to his throat resulting in to vomiting the food stuff taken short while ago. The people argued what was the need for him taking the zelebi in to his stomach and wasting money? The saint laughed at them and said that he wanted to punish his greed (nafs) which prompted him to taste the zelebi.
A new learned Muslim scholar approached a renowned Muslim Sufi for accepting him as his disciple for the purpose of his transformation ,a practice not unknown in recent times, The sufi (Buzurgh) asked if he had some mall(money)!He gave his answer in affirmation. “How much,” he enquired. “Rs.one hundred”, he replied .The disciple was a little upset and started thinking that his would be master would be money minded man(materialistic figure).The buzurgh contrary to his belief ,advised him to disposed it off. He took sigh of relief and agreed to dispose it off. His teacher asked about the mode of his disposal. He said he would give the whole amount to some needy person .The teacher said, “No”. The reason being the disciple would consider him a great donor. This feeling had to be restrained. He told him to throw the amount in to a river. It was a funny idea for many. The disciple agreed to throw the money to the river. The teacher wanted to know the mode of this disposal. He would throw the entire amount in one go. The buzurg disapprove his method .The reason being it would hurt him only once. He advised him to dispose one rupee daily in to the river. With the belief that it served greater impetus to his ego transformation(nafs)……(to be continued.)
