and self imposed security cover had no place in him. None of the living and past sports high flier can claim
or deserve to stand with him in this respect.
The month of August in Indian as well as world history occupy
very important place .Major Dhyan Chand ,not only the contemporary of Hitler
but Hitler’s Hockey hit was born on this day in the city of Allahabad .His
statue in Vienna with four hockey sticks in his hands adore the street named in his
name. Even after decades he is remembered by Indians with respect and elegance .India
adopted hockey as its national game but the denial of this award to him is unfounded.
More so when Sachin has been awarded ahead of this figure who already put this
country on the world map.
I have been watching and at the same time probing intrinsic universal
personality trait of great men who influence their time, art, profession for decades
together. I was introduced to him in Jhansi
U.P in seventies by my college physical education teacher K.N. Johri then at Jhansi
in a play ground where hockey practice was in progress in his presence and
participation .Dhyan chand possessed genuinely an exceptionally an assuming
personality. Mixed himself with young’, old, known, unknown ,significant and
insignificant alike and would resort to informal pleasantries forth with no
inkling of world reputation and historic achievements to his credit. Isolation
from masses and self imposed security cover had no place in him. None of our
sports high flier can claim or deserve to stand with him in this respect.
