CAN WE NOT AVOID PUNISHING A SCHOOL CHILD BY OUR WORDS OR CANE OR PAIN OF THIS NATURE THAT TOO IN PUBLIC /PRIVATE.

The news of a student of class X made to stand whole night by a principal of a residential school on the charge that he had stolen Rs.100.00 (Deccan Chronicle Hyderabad page one of 18th April) .I recall  a book on teacher education during my stay in the university of Allahabad in seventies. In one of the chapters ,the author cited a report of findings in survey  in USA which stated that 30% of teachers in class rooms in America then , should have in fact been in mental hospitals  .Seriously mentally retardeds ,abnormal and maladjusted are appointed as teachers without  their mental tests in India. Teacher Education in NCERT Delhi has not developed  to test their essential behavioral draw backs  .Situation has worsened in this profession .With few exception all schools are rotten in teaching profession .
The helpless tender minds are first spoiled by the family and next by the schools. In this case the physical punishment crossed all limits conceived by civilized ones. It has not only damaged the pupil`s  self esteem and self regarding sentiment so important in his  normal personality growth ,the said  chap is bound to be delinquent in future unless repairs done .He may inflict revenge from other innocents. Such is impact of this punishment. We spoil society by our administration .This punishment will certainly change the child  in to an  antisocial for which the school is responsible and the best justice is to make principal stand at least whole night under some body watch.

Incidents of this nature are common in schools and very value based corrective measures are also there in normal minds of controlling authority. Why not the school did study the reason for his theft if any rather than declaring in public as a hard core thief? The principal must have explored other options suitable to correct the child to realize his blunder which in my opinion may also not be true?  The principal acted like a blunt thanedars in police stations.
