THE FUTURE OF INDIAN DEMOCRACY AT GROSS ROOTS LEVEL:
Vote is a commodity you need to buy it on payment of a
higher price from the very dishonest and corrupt voters. India has completed 66
years of freedom. The average age of mortality (men and women) in this country
is said to be 60-65.The future of this democracy is bleak for which the people
themselves are answerable. The panchayat raj philosophy of late Rajiv Gandhi
and puritan society professed by his heir apparent Rahul Gandhi as also of
clean uncorrupt Indian administration of Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal are at
stake. Merely guaranteeing fifty percent reservation for women, reservation of
seats for seats ,BC,SC&ST may ensure a satisfaction of kissing long lost
crown but the delivery of self governance for which the constitutional and
electoral exercises have of late been initiated by the central and state
governments are out of question. I have been
watching the election process of very enlightened community of village hamlets
in the adjoining area of Hyderabad for about fifteen years.
The recent election concluded on 10/10/2013.All but one candidate
contesting ward election bribed and graced the hands of majority of voters and their agents .It is said that they
offered Rs 500 to 1000 for each vote .Many voters demanded money with a bottle
of wine. The foundation of such practice was alleged to be laid by the outgoing
Sarpanch and their family. Can it be probed and proved? Impossible! This trend
is marketed as a tool to win. Who are chosen to have this foul play? The laborers,
very temporary settlers from other states, permanent village folks dwellers with
meager income but large votes. Also the festivals if any knocking the door prompted
them to raise their purchase powers. In the fray the good, educated & active
candidates lost. Three major parties of this region selected unanimously a
candidate for the village Head who won but they also had to play political
tricks.....
Projected figures of few seats in Delhi in the coming
election in the account of Aam Party is unbelievable
in this scenario where vote is becoming the best saleable commodity.
